Learning came to life for our Nova Pioneer Ormonde Grade 1 learners during an exciting visit to the SAA Museum, where they had the opportunity to explore the world of aviation beyond the classroom.

Throughout the excursion, learners discovered more about how aeroplanes work, the different parts of an aircraft and what happens inside an aeroplane. The experience gave them the opportunity to see, ask questions and explore concepts in a completely new environment.

A highlight of the day was stepping inside a real aeroplane. Learners were able to experience what it feels like to be on board while taking a closer look at an aircraft from the inside.

The visit also introduced learners to the history of South African aviation and gave them the opportunity to learn more about aircraft that have played a part in the country’s aviation story.

Throughout the day, our Grade 1s were curious and engaged – asking questions, exploring the exhibits and making connections between what they could see and what they had been learning.

Experiences like these are an important part of making learning meaningful. By taking concepts beyond the classroom and giving students opportunities to experience them first-hand, learning becomes something they can see, explore and remember.

For our Grade 1 learners, it was a day filled with discovery, excitement and plenty of questions – exactly what great learning should inspire.
