Nova Pioneer June Sports Update

A Month of Passion, Play, and Perseverance!

June at Nova Pioneer has been nothing short of action-packed, filled with energy, determination, and sportsmanship as our students across campuses showcased their athletic talents and prepared for the highly anticipated InterNova events. From our pre-primary learners mastering the basics to our seniors competing in nail-biting tournaments, the Nova spirit was alive on every field and court!

Building Skills from the Ground Up

In line with our Physical Education curriculum, June focused on developing ball skills and agility in preparation for InterNova.

Our pre-primary Novaneers spent the month learning essential catching and throwing techniques through playful, interactive games — ensuring learning was not only effective, but fun too! These foundational skills set the tone for a month of exciting fixtures.

Friendly Competitions and Valuable Lessons

On Tuesday, June 10, Nova Pioneer Primary (NPP) hosted Reddam House Waterfall for an energetic U9 friendly, while our U10, U11, and U13 teams took to the road. Despite the scoreboard not always tilting in our favour, the lessons learned and the teamwork shown were nothing short of impressive!

The excitement continued on Wednesday, June 11, as NPP and Nova Pioneer Midrand (NPM) faced off against Reddam in away matches. While the U10 and U11 teams gave it their all, our U12 team clinched a thrilling 1-goal win, and the U13s fought to a well-earned draw.

Netball & Soccer Festival at Boksburg

Nova Pioneer Boksburg hosted Sanelich Academy for an unforgettable Open Day sports festival featuring U9, U11, and U13 Novaneers.

Round 1: Boksburg dominated with 5 wins and 1 draw!

Round 2: Sanelich came back strong and swept the matches.

The atmosphere was electric, and our students displayed incredible skill, resilience, and school pride.

Interhouse Athletics & More!

June also saw a thrilling interhouse athletics sports day at NPP, where students brought their A-game and showed off their agility, speed, and spirit. From sprinting to relays, the day was filled with laughter, cheer, and friendly competition.

Senior School Soccer & Netball Highlights

At Nova Pioneer Ormonde (NPO):

The U15 soccer team bounced back from an initial walkover to secure a solid victory in their second match.

The open soccer teams from NPM and NPO played hard — 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss — narrowly missing the finals by goal difference.

In netball, NPO’s U15 team gave a strong effort, and NPM’s team faced off in a competitive open division, showing heart and hustle throughout!

Chess: Strategic Thinking at Its Best

On Saturday, June 7, twelve senior students from NPO and NPM participated in their first chess tournament of the year, facing tough opponents from across Johannesburg South. Their strategic thinking paid off — many advanced to the semi-finals, making us incredibly proud!

InterNova: The Grand Term 2 Showdown

Hosted by Nova Pioneer Ruimsig (NPR) on June 25, the InterNova event featured grades 8–10 from three senior campuses.

The atmosphere was electric from the first war cry to the final whistle!

Key Highlights:

NPM was crowned Term 2 InterNova Soccer Champions, dominating across categories.

NPM also claimed Grade 8 & 10 Netball titles, while NPO secured the Grade 9 Netball Trophy.

Special thanks to Feilding and Dreams for sponsoring the event and helping make it a resounding success!

Celebrating Growth, Grit, and the Nova Spirit

June reminded us that sports at Nova Pioneer are about more than winning — they’re about teamwork, perseverance, and growth. Whether on the soccer field, netball court, or chessboard, our Novaneers showed us what it means to lead, learn, and rise together.

Here’s to more victories — big and small — in the months to come!
